“Blake’s 7″ – The Story of Avon & Blake

by on November 28, 2009

The troubled relationship between the two central characters from “Blake’s 7″ was always a highlight of this classic BBC series. From Avon and Blake’s first meeting as convicts on a prison ship to their final confrontation. The music’s called “Roslin & Adama” by Bear McCreary from “Battlestar Galactica”. Thought it was high time I did a video about B7 which didn’t rip the piss out of it. Hope you enjoy. If you make it to the end, or even shed a wee tear, please let me know. ;)

That was truly amazing!!! A big fan of B7 (and the re-made BSG of course). You’ve really captured the antagonistic relationship between Blake and Avon in three and a half minutes.

I love that moment at the end of Star One. And Avon’s teeny weeny hint of emotion as Blake walks away.

In Other News I passed Gareth Thomas’s house today. Or his old house, he moved to England in July.

blake has been missing for 2 seasons,he still thinks he knows avon,he deosnt believe avon will shoot him.blake deosnt know avon has turned paronoid a bit of a physchopath,he killed the only woman he ever loved, and tried to throw villa out of an airlock.avon was no leader but he sort of finally understood blakes cause and what he was trying to .blakes final scene at the end of serious 2 when he said he always trusted avon, was very emotional,

What music is this?

SPeacock November 28, 2009 at 10:52 am

I see.

SciFiAssasin November 28, 2009 at 10:56 am

Another reason was he’d left the UK and gone to Hollywood. The series four producer had to go to the USA to meet with him to get permission to kill off the characters.

SPeacock November 28, 2009 at 11:43 am

I see. No wonder he didn’t want to be a part of Series 4 when it was green lit (there were only meant to be 3).

SciFiAssasin November 28, 2009 at 12:13 pm

Yeah, he just wrote Aftermath and Terminal.
No wait! Sorry. He wrote Power Play as well. Sorry.

SPeacock November 28, 2009 at 12:34 pm

What episodes did Terry Nation write in Series 3? I know he wrote Terminal, but didn’t he write Aftermath as well?

This was really well-crafted. I really loved this show – thank you.

God I loved this show. This video is awesome. Nice job mate :)

I’m 24 and my Mum got me watching B7 when I was 8 and i never looked back. I think it’s time for another DVD run through!

if you want to see the relationship betwwen avon and blake, this says it all.blakes 7 was never the same without gareth.if avon hated blake so much why did he keep looking for him, even losing the liberator in the process, and when he did find blake he shot h

fireiciclespark November 28, 2009 at 2:55 pm

Indeed, although I seem to remember it was Blake’s excess of trust (of a Federation spy) that got them killed too.

Avon didn’t really understand love, and ended up killing the handful of people who loved him.

spazzy69 November 28, 2009 at 3:26 pm

Blake was an idealist whose dreams of freedom applied to all creatures. Avon never really got that Blake’s altruism extended to Avon and was always suspicious of Blake’s motives or contemptuous of his ideals. Time and time again Blake showed that he would never abanon or betray Avon, and in the end that makes Avon’s response to Blake’s apparent deception even more poignant. Such a wonderful, complex, dark and doomed (because of Avon’s distrust) relationship.

Masterful work

SciFiAssasin November 28, 2009 at 3:59 pm

Yeah me too. I still love the last two series, despite some crap episodes. I think Terry Nation was pissed off Gareth Thomas left, and that’s why his contribution to the third series was a mere two episodes.

bardar27 November 28, 2009 at 4:29 pm

I can’t help wondering how much better the last 2 series might have been had Gareth Thomas stayed with the show.

NiciJD November 28, 2009 at 4:51 pm

Absolutely brilliant, I loved the Avon/Blake relationship. Such a shame the series had to end, it’s still got to be my fav sci fi of all time!
Fantastic video you have posted, many thanks!

Windfoal November 28, 2009 at 4:52 pm

Still here and still watching.

More Please!!!

voodoograndma November 28, 2009 at 5:04 pm

“Avon! I waited for you!”. Ah, Blake.

RobMan147 November 28, 2009 at 5:09 pm

Excellent video, one of the best edited vids on youtube. Just shows how good the chemistry was. With the relationship between Avon and Blake being the core of the show, everthing else slotted in around it. Whooooo

MrWombatPPC November 28, 2009 at 5:49 pm

Dude, I told you this vid was brill. Hell you only need to see the comments to prove it. !! Ow just to let everyone know, Avon “Paul Darrow” is currently staring in ITV’s Emerdale as a Hip Likable Biker Dude.. :-)

aLouBell November 28, 2009 at 6:45 pm

The more theatrical acting style is perhaps more apparent in contrast with the more naturalistic acting style of modern SF shows. You don’t need such a long rope from which to suspend your disbelief these days!! Re the alarming paucity of plot and character-driven modern SF – what about Farscape, then? Lots of FX, but plenty of meaty plotlines and strong characters to get you hooked, IMHO. And, like Firefly, owes a lot to B7, particularly in season 1.

HypnoToad72 November 28, 2009 at 6:54 pm

aLouBell — not always wooden; TV of the day was produced more like televised stage plays. Especially in Britain. Only the style has changed, to be more melodramatic and theatrical. (And with sci-fi also being more soap-opera with big hollywood f/x instead of concepts and character types, there’s little of today’s TV I’d care about… save for Firefly or Futurama, oddly… :) )
